Rachel Sumekh is the Founder & CEO of Swipe Out Hunger.
The organization is the leading nonprofit addressing hunger amongst college students. Her work has been recognized by The Obama White House and landed her on Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list. Swipe Out Hunger began in 2010 with a few friends as a college project at UCLA. They have grown to over 130 campuses in the US and Canada, and are best known for their innovative approach, which allows university students to donate the unused funds from their meal plans to peers facing food insecurity.
Rachel wrote the Hunger Free Campus bill, the first public funding to address college student hunger. The bill has sent over $70 million dollars to campuses to address hunger, having passed in CA, MD, NJ and introduced in 7 other states. Rachel credits her intersectional perspective to being the child of Iranian Jewish immigrants. She serves as an advisor to several nonprofits.
