“The more I work to overcome the effects of ignorance and intolerance, the greater my conviction that education is the foundation of a more peaceful world. It is imperative that we step up our efforts to instill in every generation to value diversity, the skills of active listening and critical thinking and that we nurture their understanding of how to work with others to solve problems. Young people learn as much, if not more, from our example as from our words. By “walking the talk”, teachers shape the minds and character of their students. The Global Teacher Prize is an important opportunity to recognize the very special place that teachers occupy in our societies. I am honoured to support this important initiative.”
