Ivan Vatchkov is Chief Investment Officer of Algebris Investments, a $2.6bn alternative investment management firm specializing in the equity and debt of global financials. Ivan began his career at Algebris in 2008 as an Associate Partner responsible for Northern and Eastern Europe, and Asia Pacific markets.
Following the growing importance of the Asia Pacific markets to Algebris’ core investment strategies, Ivan moved to Singapore in 2010 to establish Algebris Investments (Asia) Pte. Limited, a regulated fund management company of the Monetary Authority of Singapore. Ivan expanded the Singapore office of Algebris to include analysis, trade execution, and investor relations.
Ivan’s expertise has been acknowledged and extensively quoted by Bloomberg™, Asian Investor™, CNBC™, Reuters™, FT™ and the Wall Street Journal™ over the last few years. He is recognized globally as a thought leader in financial regulation, compensation incentive reform and the new Basel III hybrid debt market (‘CoCos’).
Prior to Algebris Investments Ivan was a Director in the CFO office of Credit Suisse Investment Bank (’07-’08), and an equity analyst at Credit Suisse (’02-’07) and Deutsche Bank (’00-’02). Ivan holds an MSc in International Accounting and Finance from the London School of Economics and a magna cum laude BA in Finance from Richmond University. Ivan is also a CFA charter holder and a member of the Young Global Leader community at the World Economic Forum.
In addition to his professional career, Ivan has engaged in extensive philanthropic work – a hallmark of Algebris’ philosophy. Ivan established and operates ReachOut.BG, a children’s charity based in Bulgaria dedicated to the support, housing, and education of abandoned children.
Ivan currently lives in Singapore with his wife and three children, and speaks English, Russian, German, and Bulgarian.
