Head of Education Global Practice, World Bank
Jaime Saavedra graduated with a degree in Economics from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru and obtained a doctorate in the same specialty from Columbia University in New York. Between 2013 and 2016 he served as Minister of Education of Peru. Previously, he worked for 10 years at the World Bank, where he served as Global Director of Poverty Reduction and Equity, and as Interim Vice President of the Network for Poverty Reduction and Economic Management. He also held positions at the Inter-American Development Bank; the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean; the International Labor Organization; and the National Council of Labor and Employment Promotion of Peru. He was Executive Director of the Analysis for Development Group.
He taught at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, the Pacific University of Peru, and the University of Toronto. He has published extensive research on poverty and inequality, unemployment and labor markets, the economics of education, and monitoring and evaluation systems. He currently leads the World Bank's Global Practice on Education.
