Global Schools Prize Council |
Peter Tabichi is the first African to win the US$1 million Global Teacher Prize, an honour he earned in 2019 while teaching science and mathematics at Keriko Secondary School in rural Nakuru County, Kenya. Working in overcrowded, under-resourced classrooms, he tripled student enrolment and coached learners who went on to win UN SDG awards at the Intel International Science & Engineering Fair.
Today he serves full-time as Founder and Programme Lead of the Peter Tabichi Foundation, which equips teachers across Kenya to co-design inclusive, curriculum-aligned resources and foster professional learning communities. Peter holds a Bachelor of Education in Science (Mathematics & Physics) from Egerton University and a Master’s in Education and International Development from University College London. His community projects have mobilised more than USD 400,000 for water, classrooms, laboratories, and ICT infrastructure in marginalised schools.
A sought-after voice on education, he has addressed the World Bank, the UN General Assembly, and the World Economic Forum. National and international honours include UN in Kenya Person of the Year, the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear, and the Ahimsa Award. Peter also served on Kenya’s Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms (2022–2023), championing evidence-driven, values-based learning for every child.
“Schools are the most powerful laboratories of human potential. The Global Schools Prize will spotlight bold, evidence-driven innovations—rooted in equity and community—that turn classrooms into engines of opportunity. I’m honoured to serve on the Council and help celebrate schools preparing every learner to shape a better future.”
