From Ceuta to the World: Creative Climate Action through Minecraft and LEGO

In this project, K-7 students tackled the local environmental challenge of the invasive Japanese algae (Rugulopteryx okamurae) affecting the Strait of Gibraltar. Through Minecraft Education, LEGO Build the Change Schools, and creative storytelling, they proposed innovative solutions like:

A seaweed collection machine

A research vessel

A marine oyster greenhouse

And the fictional journey of Leo, a young climate activist working to restore his ecosystem

Their project connects with key LOMLOE competencies and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 13, 14, and 15), promoting:

  • Digital and computational thinking
  • STEM and STEAM innovation
  • Emotional and environmental literacy
  • Global citizenship education

This video is part of the global Coding4Climate movement, showcasing how classrooms can become powerful spaces for climate action.
