United Nations Scientific and Cultural Organizations has declared the 24th of January, every year as the International Day of Education. The theme for this year's celebration is "Learning for lasting peace "

This theme is in tandem with the crises and challenges facing the World. There is a surge in kidnappings, terrorism, hate speech, and serious threats to peaceful coexistence.

It is essential to educate our learners about the need for peace to ensure the development of the World. To achieve this lasting peace requires collaborative efforts of all and sundry.

The government must provide a safe and stimulating environment for learning to take place in the school. Learners must feel free to enjoy their right to education as enshrined in the Constitution of every Country.

Similarly, parents and guardians must serve as role models and support the school by talking about peace, living in peace, and unity with everyone. Most things are learned consciously and unconsciously through our parents and close ones.

The mass media most especially online media must be objective in what they share and post online. This is because online post travels far and have the potential to insight into actions quickly.

Education is a fundamental human right. Therefore, investment in education to foster peace and sustainable development must be at the forefront of our national discourse.
