I'm a teacher teaching in a school where parents can afford buying educational resources or materials for their wards. This and many other factors aid my students to perform best in international examination. As the 2020 National Best Teacher in Ghana, my work gives me the opportunity to interact with directors, administrators, teachers and learners. It was found that most of our students do not have textbooks and the main reason is that parents could not afford buying.
I then asked myself, "what can teachers do in the midst of such situation?". I decided to take upon myself to provide science and ICT textbooks to needy students and less endowed schools across the country (Ghana). Currently, I have donated over 4000 textbooks to over seventy less endowed schools across the country.
The conclusion is that our duties as teachers go beyond imparting academic knowledge to our learners. We must counsel, direct, and support them in diverse ways. The future of our learners, the role of the teacher.
