Peter Tabichi is the first African to win the US$1 million Global Teacher Prize, an honour he earned in 2019 while teaching science and mathematics at Keriko Secondary School in rural Nakuru County, Kenya. Working in overcrowded, under-resourced classrooms, he tripled student enrolment and coached learners who went on to win UN SDG awards at the Intel International Science & Engineering Fair.
Today, he serves full-time as Founder and Programme Lead of the Peter Tabichi Foundation, which equips teachers across Kenya to co-design inclusive, curriculum-aligned resources and foster professional learning communities. His community projects have mobilised more than USD 400,000 for water, classrooms, laboratories, and ICT infrastructure in marginalised schools.
