Global Teacher Prize 2023 | Ukraine

The Global Teachers Prize Ukraine 2023 honoured five outstanding educators in Ukraine on October 7, 2023, as announced by Osvitoria (Education). Since its inception in 2017, this prestigious award has honoured outstanding educators in Ukraine in five different categories. One million hryvnias is awarded to each winner of this distinguished prize in order to support and advance their educational endeavours.

Winners in each category are:

Innovative Teacher - Maxim Gvozdetsky

During COVID and the war in Ukraine, he created his own YouTube channel with videos from the series "REAL PHYSICS", which shows the use of physical phenomena in real life. He also uses the technique of memorizing information by association, encoding some formulas from physics in poems or sentences.

Young Teacher - Petro Sitek

Petro teaches public education at the School of the Free and Indifferent, which is located in Lviv. He is only 23 years old and has worked for 4 years as a teacher. In his work, he uses debates, quests, and other activities, multimedia presentations, and also creates conditions for pupils that allow them to express any emotions freely. He adopted the course "Science of Well-being" from Yale University.

Resilient Teacher - Larisa Fesenko

Larisa worked as a school principal and English teacher. When the Russian invaders occupied her settlement, she refused to cooperate with them. Unfortunately, she had to spend 45 days in Russian captivity, where she was constantly interrogated by the occupiers.

Teacher-Volunteer - Katerina Yakushevska

Katerina worked as a speech therapist in an elementary school in Mykolaiv until February 23, 2022. Her school was damaged by a Russian rocket. Now she works at a local hospital. There she helps wounded Ukrainian soldiers and civilians restore their speech and memory. According to her, the specifics of such classes are the same as when working with children.

Preschool - Victoria Dushina

During the first three weeks of the war, she was with her students in Kharkiv under shelling, distributing humanitarian aid and organizing various events for residents and their families. After the evacuation, she created a club for displaced children in a village in the Kharkiv region, where together with her parents, she held events and lessons for small children from the entire village.
