For the first time, a preschool teacher has won Chile’s most prestigious education award. Yohana Hernández, an early childhood educator from Frutillar, Los Lagos Region, was named winner of the 2025 Global Teacher Prize Chile, recognised for her dedication to children’s emotional well-being and her innovative work in connecting early learning with nature.

Through her work at Jardín Infantil Frutillita, she has strengthened emotional education, peaceful conflict resolution, and collaboration with families, introducing neurological and speech therapy support to foster children’s holistic development. “Educating is about transcending, making a difference, and leaving a mark,” she said. “I’m proud to represent Frutillar and to show that early education can change lives.”

Organised by Elige Educar in partnership with the Varkey Foundation, the Global Teacher Prize Chile celebrates teachers who inspire and transform their communities. Now in its tenth year, the 2025 ceremony also honored Nemesio Rodríguez (Comprehensive Education) and Luis Felipe Soto (Music Education), reaffirming the vital role of educators in building a more inclusive and compassionate society.
