Fiorella Riveros

Fiorella Riveros is a youth ambassador, entrepreneur, scientist and activist.

To combat the lack of science education in Paraguay, Fiorella founded Eureka, an organization with over 40 volunteers from 3 continents which teaches science through weekly informative posts on social networks and through free classes on sciences not taught in schools, such as astronomy. Eureka has already directly impacted over 500 people and has already achieved international alliances with STEOA, an Argentine scientific organization with which it created STEM Academy, a website for people to access our recorded classes and download books of our authorship to learn offline. Eureka also joined forces with Girl Up to create campaigns that raise awareness about the position of women in science and promote gender equality.

Fiorella is keen to transfer knowledge to those around her and offers free one-on-one mentoring to her peers. She has also provided more than 30 free online classes on STEM, Spanish and English to around 80 children from all over Latin America through Project Passport, an organization that improves the school performance of Latin American children.

At school Fiorella competed in high level chess tournaments and writing contests, and represented the school in the finals of several national math competitions. She also carried out research on Venezuelan migration to Paraguay as well as the upholding of human rights in Paraguay during the 2020 pandemic. Both pieces of work were awarded at her school's annual Science and Technology Fair.

She joined the Harvard Model United Nations where she researched the importance of historical memory laws for the preservation of peace. She also worked with Aldea Bayer Kimlu, a science and leadership academy where she carried out research focused on improving the economy and agriculture through the study of soils, and another focused on the visibility of women scientists to promote the gender equality in STEM. Fiorella presented these ideas to authorities from Laboratorios Bayer and Fundación Ciencia Joven.

Fiorella is a long-standing member of the World Scout Movement where she discovered her passion for service and volunteering, regularly working on projects such as collecting plastic from the streets to sell and donate the proceeds to Lucha, a foundation for children with cancer. Together with her scout group, she works every year collecting food and coats that are donated to families affected by floods. She has also written articles on waste reduction in Planet Without Waste, a project made up of scouts from all over Latin America and Europe who seek to eradicate environmental pollution and improve public health through education in waste management.

Fiorella has also helped with the creation of Ñemotenonde ("progress" in Guaraní) which is a training center for a community of chamacocos located in the Central region of the country. The project provides trade workshops, entrepreneurship mentorships and management of social networks. During 2021, Ñemotenonde focused on offering gastronomy workshops, achieving alliances with private companies and reaching 60 young people who have already begun to market their products, thus promoting economic growth and local development.
