Igor Klymenko

Igor Klymenko studies Physical and Mathematical sciences at the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. Igor is passionate about raising awareness of, and solving, the global landmine problem. 

In 5th grade, when the war in Ukraine began, Igor knew he wanted to help his country. Always interested in science, he decided to apply his learnings to develop robots for demining and in 10th grade began incorporating quadcopters and drones into his ideas. For the last two years he has been actively working on his latest research, Quadcopter Mines Detector, which he has successfully presented at numerous competitions and exhibitions – he was a finalist of the X Festival of Innovative Projects "Sikorsky Challenge 2021: Ukraine and the World", for example. Igor also received the Gold medal in the junior category at Malaysia's 21st Technology Exhibition (MTE) 2022. This award was particularly significant for Igor as it enabled him to successfully present his research to the world.

Igor has developed two working prototypes of his device and is now working with investors and various organizations for fast real-world implementation to help reduce the number of victims of explosive devices and begin rebuilding Ukraine. He has received two official patents from Ukraine for his device and cooperates with the media to raise awareness among the many military and civilian parties who are keen to put it to immediate use. Igor is currently participating in the UF Startup School Beginner 2022 business incubator, and he plan to sign a cooperation agreement with this organization soon.

At school, Igor also take an active role in various social activities aimed at encouraging young people to study science and conduct research. He is a member of the Minor Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and together with them, he is involving young people in the study of science and the implementation of their ideas. Igor also gave lectures on the promotion of education and science to students of the innovative school Think Global. At the end of 9th grade he started conducting online math classes for younger students from different parts of Ukraine and is still actively teaching, so, in addition to scientific and school affairs, he has been teaching students mathematics for 2 years.

Growing up in a war-torn country where every day he hears the noise of planes, rockets, or missiles, Igor is an active volunteer in the supporting the war effort, preparing and delivering provisions for the military and those in need. Every day he continues to study, despite the effects of the war around him, to get a good education, continue his development, research, and rebuild Ukraine.

Igor has a plan to implement his device and start mass production, so if he won the Global Student Prize, he plans to use the funds to attract more companies and organizations to invest in the finished product and roll it out as quickly as possible.
