As part of the Global Character Alliance, The Varkey Foundation and Dandelion hosted the Latin American Congress on Character Education. Held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, it was a key milestone to strengthen the region’s growing network around character education. The event brought together a highly diverse community—including more than 40 ministers and secretaries of education, policymakers, researchers, educators, school leaders, NGOs, and private sector representatives—with the shared aim of fostering meaningful dialogue across sectors.
It was preceded by an academic pre-conference at the Palacio San Martín, opened by a keynote from James Arthur and special remarks by Andreas Schleicher, and featured over 30 leading speakers from more than 15 countries. The main congress welcomed over 600 participants for a full day of exchange, reflection, and collaboration. Beyond the scale of participation, the event succeeded in opening a regional conversation, making visible the breadth of ongoing initiatives, and consolidating character education as an increasingly relevant and promising horizon for education policy and practice across Latin America.
