The Varkey Foundation Shares Regional Character Education Progress on the Global Stage

Augustin Porres, Regional Director for Latin America at the Varkey Foundation, spoke at the European Character and Virtue Association conference in Austria. Representing the Foundation, which is already making a strong impact in the region, Augustin presented a bold regional initiative focused on character education: a Program for Government Teams in five pioneer countries, Colombia, El Salvador, Argentina, Mexico, and Brazil, running from April to December 2025.

To date, around 140 government officials from Bogotá, El Salvador, Mendoza, Michoacán, and Paraná have received in-person training in their home countries. The program aims to build virtuous educational leadership across the region by supporting government teams in the development of education policies grounded in Character Education, advancing human flourishing at a systemic level.
