We were devastated to hear of the passing of Karen Giles in late March. Karen's invaluable contributions as an Advisory Board Member enriched the endeavours of the Varkey Foundation. With a global perspective that influenced her interests, she also made significant contributions as a Trustee on the Board of Varkey Foundation Argentina.
For over three decades, Karen dedicated herself to education in London, leaving an indelible mark on numerous schools. Notably, she steered Barham Primary School in Brent as headteacher for over 20 years, leaving a legacy of excellence and dedication.
Karen's influence also extended as a Local Authority School Effectiveness Lead Professional, collaborating with leaders across sixteen schools. Her commitment to nurturing leadership extended to her role as a Leadership Coach for the Future Leaders Trust, where she guided and inspired aspiring educators since 2012.
Karen's impact was also felt through her tenure as an OFSTED Inspector from 2010 to 2015, where her insights and dedication to educational quality were instrumental. Additionally, her leadership was evident in her facilitation of National College Leadership programs and training sessions for headteachers and aspiring leaders.
Karen's career was recognised through many accolades, including her recognition with the London Region National Teacher Award for Enterprise and Innovation in 2009. Her dedication, expertise, and humility were a beacon of inspiration for all who had the privilege of working with her.
Her wisdom and grace shall forever resonate in the hearts of all who knew her and we send our best wishes to her family, friends and colleagues. She will be deeply missed.
