Md Zahidul Islam is a Bangladeshi Chemistry educator whose mission has been to make science meaningful, joyful, and accessible to every learner—especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Rising from his own early experiences of seeing students fear science, he dedicated his life to transforming that fear into curiosity. His teaching journey began after completing his Master’s degree and professional certification, but it soon expanded far beyond the walls of any classroom.
In 2020, he founded Zahid’s Chem Clinic, an educational organisation that now teaches 2,500 students offline and 7,000 online annually, and has reached over 500,000 learners in total. His creative, technology-driven approach—combining storytelling, gamified learning, virtual simulations, and problem-solving marathons—has significantly improved student success rates. In 2023 alone, 427 of his 750 students achieved A+ grades, and his students consistently secure top positions in medical and engineering entrance examinations.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, when education in Bangladesh came to a halt, Zahid became a national leader in digital transformation. At Chittagong Government Women’s College, he created the institution’s first virtual campus, trained teachers with no prior digital experience, and conducted countless workshops on Zoom, Google Meet, and PowerPoint. His efforts allowed the college to become one of the first in the region to resume uninterrupted online teaching. He personally supported students and teachers day and night—an act he considers his greatest achievement.
Beyond innovative teaching, he founded the Chemistry Star Bangladesh Olympiad, which now engages over 5,000 students annually, receiving national media attention and awarding laptops, tablets, and scholarships. He has co-authored a bestselling Chemistry textbook and written 13 academic books widely used across Bangladesh.
His exceptional work has earned international recognition, including the Best Rising Youth Mentor (Education) Award 2022, invitations to speak at EduTeach 2023 (University of Toronto), FETC 2024 (Orlando), PALA 2022 (Malaysia), PALA 2025 (Germany), and Edutech 2025 (Sydney). He was personally invited by the CEO of the Nobel Prize Museum to the Nobel Prize Teacher Summit 2024 in Stockholm and has been nominated for the 2025 Tällberg-SNF-Eliasson Global Leadership Prize.
Zahid also runs one of Bangladesh’s largest science learning communities, with 36,700+ YouTube subscribers and 174,000+ Facebook group members. He provides free classes, mental-health support, and scholarships worth over 3,000,000 BDT (USD 25,000) for underprivileged students each year. His mentorship extends globally, helping students achieve international scholarships, PhD placements, and even representation at the International Chemistry Olympiad.
He promotes global citizenship by engaging students with climate change, sustainable technologies, and international scientific collaboration. As a trainer of teachers during Bangladesh’s digital learning revolution, he has uplifted hundreds of educators and strengthened the nation’s teaching ecosystem.
If awarded the Global Teacher Prize, Zahid plans to build a free hybrid Chemistry education platform, a Chemistry Innovation and Learning Center, and scholarship pathways for 10,000 underprivileged students, hoping one day to empower a future Nobel laureate from Bangladesh.
