Jusinta Kwakyewaa

Ghana - St. Francis Senior High Technical School

Jusinta Kwakyewaa is an extraordinary Ghanaian educator whose 24-year career has transformed thousands of lives through innovative teaching, community empowerment and unwavering compassion. Her journey began in childhood, when her natural love for children inspired her to teach neighbourhood kids rhymes, numeracy and songs—an early sign of the calling she would later pursue with unparalleled dedication.

Teaching in rural Ghana, Jusinta has worked tirelessly to overcome challenges such as poverty-driven dropout rates, inadequate school facilities, absenteeism, and limited resources. She consistently mobilizes parents, school authorities and community leaders to address these barriers. She personally provides basic necessities for vulnerable learners and created a Clothing and Textiles Resource Centre using her own US$2,300, enabling over 4,000 students to gain hands-on skills. Her “free tuition” weekend and evening classes further strengthen academic performance and ensure no learner is left behind.

Her passion extends well beyond the classroom. As founder of Frans Care for All Networks, she supports over 12,000 underprivileged people, including orphans, prisoners, cured lepers, the aged, and deprived families. Through her “Free School Uniform Project,” she has provided uniforms and educational materials to over 7,000 students, helping keep many children in school. Her “Academic Drive” project has delivered over 9,200 educational books, renovated schools and improved learning facilities across rural Ghana.

A fierce advocate for girls, her “Dream Girl-Child Initiative” has reached more than 18,000 girls with career mentorship, personal development programmes and menstrual health education. She has also donated over 7,000 packs of sanitary pads to support menstrual dignity and reduce absenteeism.

In the classroom, Jusinta is a champion of practical, inquiry-based and inclusive learning. She integrates ICT tools, real-life scenarios and sustainability principles, encouraging students to upcycle fabric scraps and plastics into useful products. Her students consistently excel, achieving an average pass rate of 85.85% in WASSCE Clothing and Textiles from 2019–2024. She has also won numerous cultural and academic awards for her school at district, regional and national levels.

Her influence on the teaching profession is equally profound. She has trained over 1,000 teachers, contributed to Ghana’s new Secondary Education Curriculum, and equips colleagues with expertise in learner-centred pedagogy and subject-specific AI. As part of a national teaching team, she has delivered televised lessons to 44,880 first-year students and provided online sensitization for 4,870 pre-SHS students. She is a regular facilitator at national and international conferences, including GESS-Dubai and Varkey Foundation programmes. Several teachers she mentors have gone on to receive national recognition.

Her commitment to climate education is evident through initiatives in recycling, tree-planting and environmental stewardship. Her “pick as you go” campaign has transformed school sanitation, while recycling projects turn plastic and fabric waste into marketable products.

Recognized both globally and nationally, her honours include the 2023 GESS Dubai Judges’ Commendation Award and 1st Runner-Up, 2021 Ghana Teacher Prize.

Through compassion, innovation and relentless service, Jusinta continues to empower students, uplift communities and inspire a new generation of globally minded citizens—making her an exceptional candidate for the Global Teacher Prize.
