Lucas Schildknecht

Luxembourg - Institut de formation de l’Education nationale du Luxembourg

Lucas Schildknecht is a dedicated educator whose career represents an unwavering commitment to equitable, innovative, and accessible education. His teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that every child deserves quality education tailored to their needs. His journey into the profession began in 2008, teaching across diverse environments from kindergarten to specialized middle school classes. These experiences cultivated a dedication to pedagogical innovation, a principle that has guided him throughout his career.

Throughout his career, Lucas has pursued an extensive academic journey, reflecting his commitment to lifelong learning. After his initial teacher training, he earned master's degrees in Teaching, Training Practice and Engineering, Children's Literature, French as a Foreign Language, Sociology, and Religious Studies. Currently completing a master's degree in Support and Mentoring in Work Environments and Situations, he exemplifies how continuous education can deepen and enrich teaching practice. Each degree has enriched his pedagogical approach in unique ways - sociology and religious studies providing crucial insights into sociocultural dynamics affecting learning, while specialized education degrees enhancing his ability to create inclusive learning environments.

In 2016, Lucas expanded his impact internationally, teaching in New York and pioneering creative classroom approaches. His methods earned him the prestigious Blackboard Award in 2018, reflecting an ability to positively transform student learning experiences. Beyond his classroom role, he pursued advanced studies, equipping himself with the tools to address the diverse needs of his students.

One of his most notable achievements is the creation of Maître Lucas, an educational platform born out of his classroom in 2016. Initially designed as a flipped classroom resource for his students, the platform has since grown into a global educational resource, serving millions of students annually. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Maître Lucas played a pivotal role in maintaining educational continuity, especially for students with special needs. By providing ad-free, accessible, and high-quality content, Lucas has democratized education for diverse learners, including homeschoolers and children facing geographical, social, or economic barriers. The platform reaches 12 million unique visitors annually, 50% from France and 50% from other countries. Through a partnership with the Orange Foundation, Maître Lucas also supports students in 17 African countries, even in areas without internet access.

Lucas’s online teaching is characterised by a meticulous, student-centered approach. His videos employ explicit teaching methods, using relatable scenarios, step-by-step explanations, and practical exercises. The inclusion of two animated characters – a knowledgeable teacher and a curious, relatable child – fosters engagement while normalising the learning process, including the role of mistakes.

As a trainer at Luxembourg's Institut de formation de l'Éducation nationale, Lucas extends his impact further by equipping fellow teachers with innovative strategies. His training sessions emphasise pedagogical excellence, inclusivity, and intercultural understanding, particularly important in multilingual and diverse societies. Maître Lucas also serves as an informal professional development tool, inspiring educators worldwide to adopt adaptive teaching methods.

Lucas successfully integrates global citizenship into his content, emphasising universal values like equality, respect, and environmental stewardship. His videos on climate change and sustainability help students understand complex ecological concepts and inspire them to take steps towards reducing their environmental impact. His platform also exemplifies eco-consciousness, designed to minimise its carbon footprint.

Lucas Schildknecht’s relentless dedication to education is driven by a vision of universal accessibility. By combining innovation, inclusivity, and lifelong learning, he has redefined modern teaching. His contributions resonate globally, empowering learners and educators alike to navigate and thrive in an interconnected world.
