Ile Mihajlovski

North Macedonia - OOU ” Sveti Kiril i Metodij”

Ile Mihajlovski, a dedicated teacher from Sveti Nikole, North Macedonia, is a beacon of hope in an education system facing many systemic challenges. His journey, shaped by a parentless adolescence and a passion for the arts, has been marked by an unwavering commitment to supporting vulnerable children, fostering inclusive education, and nurturing a new generation of empathetic global citizens.

Ile’s innovative teaching practices have profoundly impacted his students, particularly those from marginalized groups. As the first educator in his municipality to introduce individualized education plans (IEPs), assistive technology, and digital educational tools for students with special needs, he has redefined inclusive learning. His classroom is a sanctuary where empathy and humanity flourish, cultivating values like kindness, diversity acceptance, and altruism. By embedding social stories into his lessons and celebrating moral achievements with awards such as “Best Helper” and “Best Encourager,” he has eradicated bullying and created a nurturing environment where students thrive academically and socially.

His influence extends far beyond the classroom. Recognizing the lack of resources for students with disabilities, Ile developed over 3,000 adapted lesson plans and worksheets, now widely used across North Macedonia. His YouTube channel features accessible audiobooks, and he has donated 3,000 books to rural libraries and schools. He also facilitated the donation of over 100 electronic devices during the pandemic, ensuring that children in remote areas could continue their education.

A passionate advocate for children with special needs, Ile founded the first day care centre for individuals with disabilities in Sveti Nikole, raising awareness and training others in inclusive practices. His work has touched the lives of countless families, including organizing donation campaigns for children in oncology wards, foster families, and those at social risk. Through his humanitarian efforts, he provides school supplies, clothing, and food for hundreds of children annually, and even secured wheelchairs and medical supplies for those in need.

Ile’s impact is also seen on a global stage. He has created online lessons for teachers and families who have kids/students with autism in North Macedonia and Bulgaria, facilitated international exchanges to promote cultural understanding, and mentored students who later excel in global programs like Erasmus. His efforts to instil values of sustainability among young learners include reforestation projects, recycling initiatives, and innovative solutions for conserving resources, empowering and inspiring students to advocate for environmental preservation in their communities.

With accolades including the Best Teacher in Former Yugoslavia and Educator of the Year in North Macedonia, Ile’s legacy is one of profound change. His former students, inspired by his example, continue to embody and spread the values he instilled, becoming compassionate leaders and active contributors to their communities.

Ile Mihajlovski’s extraordinary dedication to teaching, community service, and fostering humanity has made him a true pioneer in education. His work, and its extraordinary impact and legacy, exemplifies the transformative power of empathy and inclusion, making him a deserving candidate for the Global Teacher Prize.
