Shakira Amirah

Shakira Amirah's academic life is filled with active participation in research, competitions, organizational work, and community service. She emphasizes the importance of passion in creation, seeing learning as a process deeply connected to real-world impacts. A belief in diligence over mere intelligence has guided her through a host of research projects and competitions since her first year. Her research efforts have resulted in over ten published papers indexed by Scopus with an h-index of 4, a testament to her dedication to advancing knowledge. Beyond academics, Shakira has built extensive social networks through organizational roles, including her position as Vice Overall Chairperson of representation body and non-profit The Asian Medical Students' Association (AMSA) International. Her involvement in these has enhanced her language skills and provided insights into global health practices. Her AMSA role has seen her mediate issues between countries and build communication relationships with regional chairpersons to ensure equitable benefits. 

Shakira's leadership roles include chairing national-level community service events to raise awareness about health issues like lower back pain and breast cancer. She has participated in international environmental initiatives, like waste collection in Nepal, and led campaigns to improve public health. Her mentorship has had a significant impact on her peers, guiding over 100 students in scientific writing competitions and computer science Olympiads. Her academic achievements are further highlighted with a prestigious scholarship from the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture, allowing her to finance her medical education and participate in international exchange programs and conferences. 

Shakira’s success in international competitions has resulted in winning awards in oral presentations and scientific poster categories and has been recognized as the Most Outstanding Student at her university. Her leadership skills have been showcased through her role in ideation competitions organized by the Global Health Workforce Network (GWHN) Hub hosted by the Health Workforce Department at the World Health Organisation, where she led an international team to victory. Despite traditional gender role expectations within her family, Shakira has pursued her educational aspirations with determination, advocating for the importance of women's education and challenging societal norms. She has successfully sought opportunities for international exchange programs and scholarships, which have facilitated her studies abroad. 

Her creativity and innovation are evident from her content creation on TikTok and Instagram, where she shares motivational material and scientific insights with over 15,000 followers. She also developed an app to help people self-isolate during the COVID-19 pandemic, showcasing an ability to blend medical knowledge with programming skills. Shakira's creative pursuits extend to traditional dance and henna art, which she uses to connect with her cultural heritage and bring joy to others. She also contributes to public health awareness through impactful health posters. 

Shakira's global citizenship includes participation in international exchange programs, such as the Tsukuba Voyage Exchange Program and a month-long program in Romania. These experiences taught her the importance of adaptation and communication across different cultures.
