Tuesday Humby

Tuesday is head teacher and a Teacher of Law, Politics and Drama. Before her arrival the school previously had a dire reputation – the roll was falling and it had been rated “inadequate”. Her school is now ranked in the top 100 in the UK.

The school serves a predominately white working class community. Many students have never left their hometown or had a sit down meal in a restaurant. Tuesday has introduced an enrichment charter to plug the gaps. Every child will go on a residential trip, eat out, go to the theatre and see live professional sport. They have opportunities to visit more multicultural environments, and go abroad, including to Kenya, to help them build relationships well outside their usual context.

Tuesday says that improving the quality of teaching and learning is her lifeblood. As well as creating a university-accredited leadership programme she works hands-on with teachers at all stages of their career progression, visiting their classrooms daily to give tips, live coach and share best practice. Tuesday believes in leading from the front and believes teachers learn best from seeing inspirational teaching. She continues to teach Drama, gaining exemplary results by applying quality first teaching.

The school is now judged ‘outstanding’ and its enhanced reputation means the community has real pride, students no longer think university is beyond reach and more students are enrolling on A-level courses. It has fast become the school of choice.
