2015 Finalists Global Teacher Prize |
Noah teaches social studies at Chief Sealth International High School in Seattle. He has conceived a highly innovative class called Global Leadership. The curriculum embraces complex global topics such as the political effects of climate change and food scarcity. It allows students to develop leadership and team-building skills through service learning, a problem-based approach and community involvement. A key component of the course is Adopt-A-Class, which requires students to teach lessons about these topics to fourth grade pupils. Students also improve their reading and writing skills in Global Leadership, because they are engaged in relevant issues that matter to them.
Noah has been contributing to the improvement of the teaching profession by working with the Center for Teaching Quality and his state’s Professional Educator’s Standards Board. He has also been sharing his expertise at conferences and by writing articles for several education magazines, journals and blogs.
