His Excellency Dr. Tariq Al Gurg, Chief Executive Officer and Vice-Chairman, Dubai Cares

H.E. Dr. Tariq Al Gurg is the Chief Executive Officer and Vice-Chairman of Dubai Cares.

Since joining Dubai Cares in 2009, Dr. Al Gurg has successfully combined his extensive senior leadership experience with his passion for education and philanthropy to lead and mobilize a global movement on reclaiming the role of education as a core enabler of sustainable development.

Owing to his efforts, Dubai Cares has become a successful global convener that is working towards transforming education through a whole-of-society ecosystem approach that is powered by cross-sectoral collaboration. Dr. Al Gurg is also the driving force behind the organization’s flagship global education platform RewirEd Summit, one of the most successful global advocacy platforms to rewire education for a prosperous and sustainable future.

Globally, Dr. Al Gurg is a founding member of Generation Unlimited (GenU), UNICEF’s flagship youth initiative, where he also sits on its Global Board and Global Leadership Council. In addition, he is a founding member of UNESCO’s Global Education Coalition and served as a member of the advisory board of UNESCO’s Futures of Education Commission. Moreover, he is the Regional Champion of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) in the Middle East. He is also a high-level Champion of the World Economic Forum’s Reskilling Revolution and a member of the Forum’s Education 4.0 Alliance. In addition, he is a founding member of the High-Level Steering Group of Education Cannot Wait and the School Meals Coalition.  

Locally, Dr. Al Gurg is the Chairman of the Global Council on SDG 4 under the UAE Global Councils on Sustainable Development Goals, and a member of the UAE Committee for the Coordination of Humanitarian Aid headed by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC), as well as a board member of the Digital School in the UAE. He also co-founded the UAE Genetic Diseases Association and currently serves as its Vice-Chairman.

Dr. Al Gurg was recognized as a “Change-maker” by Save the Children during the celebration of their centennial anniversary. He was also recognized by UNESCO and by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM). He also holds an Honorary Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.) Degree from Mangalayatan University in Aligarh, India.

Prior to joining Dubai Cares, Dr. Al Gurg devoted 12 years to senior management roles within the consumer and corporate banking at National Bank of Dubai (now known as Emirates NBD). He was also a member of the UAE’s National Anti-Money Laundering Committee, which was chaired by the Governor of the UAE Central Bank.
