Children from a very young age need to learn about recycling. Recycling is something that should be taught early on and ingrained as a necessary step to help to protect our planet. Children are fast learners, and this often resonates through doing.
It's important that we lead by example and make sure that when we are speaking to our students about the importance of recycling, we are putting it into practice ourself. Kids must learn how to care for the environment as they grow.Valuable lessons such as sustainability and how the world should be left for future generations are also important. By showing them the importance of recycling we are giving them a brigther and cleaner future.
Here are some activities with our students that demonstrate the importance of recycling while making it doable and functional for them:
-Build a robot.
They don't throw away the cardboard boxes and yogurt containers! We build a robot with these materials.
-Go on a recycling scavenger hunt.
We're going on a scavenger hunt in the nearest park to see how much we can collect from the environment that can be recycled! We are having a race.
-Homemade bird feeders
We make bird feeders from plastic bottles and w we hang them on trees.
-Recycle Caps for Game Pieces or Art
When it is time to play a game in the classroom, students can use their individual game pieces, reminding them that their recycling efforts are worth it again and again.
Recycling for kids can be creative!
As a school, we cooperate with the recycling company in Macedonia, ,,Pakomak,,. We sort waste in the school, we sort plastic, paper and electrical waste. For that, they supply us with liquid soap and other necessary things for the school. Every year, students participate in a competition for a work of art from waste, ,,Trash for Art,, organized by recycling company, Pakomak, - Macedonia
